For uncontrolled ILS's, Greenville, Grayson County. For controlled ILS's
Addison, Meacham, Alliance, Redbird. For nonprecision, practically anywhere
that I haven't done one in a while.

Ardmore, OK (KADM) has a ILS to 31 so those times when the wind is out
of the north. You can also eat at the restaurant on the field or stop by
Cedar Mills (3T0) and eat there. KADM is a controlled field. Did a lot
of my ILS work there before KGYI (Grayson County) was commissioned.
There is also McKinney (KTKI).

What airport do you fly out of Genny?

I fly out of Meacham and usually head west to Mineral Wells
(aka:Miserable Wells). I can usually avoid all of the DFW traffic by
heading out that way. They have VOR and NDB approaches and then I hit
the ILS back into Meacham.

McKinney (TKI) and Mesquite (HQZ). McKinney tower does a good job. There's
one guy who's rude and can be a pain in the ass but I still like going there
for approaches. On final for rwy-17 about a mile out there's a gutted twin.
It reminds me to land better. Speaking of which, the winds there usually
change directions twice. There are 3 windsocks, appraoch, mid-field, and
departure, and they almost always point in different directions.

I fly my P-51 out of KFTW when I'm not doing my swimsuit photo shoots for
magazines.

P-51? Wow - Suddenly I've found my new best friend

Where do you keep it? I fly with Go Aviation out of the "Brodie's
Aircraft" hangar building.

And I assume when you say 'swimsuit photo shoot' that you are the
photographer and not the model...?

My view after flying out of Addison for 11 years now is to avoid McKinney,
Mesquite and Denton like the plague. They are just too busy with VFR pukes
on nice days. What's the point of a practice ILS if you have to break it
off 3 miles out to avoid pattern traffic? Unless you are in something slow
like a Piper Cub you can be over to Alliance or Greenville in only a few
more minutes and get all the practice you want.

I've not experienced problems with 'vfr pukes' at TKI to the point where I'd
avoid the airspace. Sometimes they've been a little busy but they've always
been good about getting me in. I do go to Allicance once in a while but I
prefer taking students (future vfr pukes) to TKI and HQZ.

Oh, and we were all vfr pukes at one time. Hell, sometimes I like to be a
'vfr puke' and do touch and go's for hours.
