SSA Board Meeting in Charlotte 10-20-12
I wuz just winding RAS up Eric...
Someone DID get locked up without good cause or due process. Some sheriff being over zealous no doubt, but still good for a dig at officialdom. We've had these sensitive areas, like reactors and dams, for 11 years now, and this is the first time a glider pilot has been harassed. This seems to be a very special case, not "a propensity to police state excesses"; remember, the FAA said it was fine. -- Bruce Greeff T59D #1771 |

Again, my point is it's not "officialdom" that appears to be the problem, but more likely an "official" - one person, perhaps two or three in one place at that particular time. What I've noticed over the years is we rarely know all the details, so it's difficult to asses the blame; for example, maybe these people were on a super-alert because they'd had recent communications from Homeland Security about potential terrorist acts; maybe the glider pilot was belligerent instead of accommodating; and so on. It does no good to trot out our favorite bogeyman whenever things like this happen, given our lack of knowledge of the situation. -- Eric Greenwell - Washington State, USA (change ".netto" to ".us" to email me) |
