A final yenc thought.
Russell, declaring I'm a loser was uncalled for. Resizing is not the
issue it's the method of posting that this discussion is about. Yenc posts is a smaller size file eliminating the need use a second program to resize the file. You make it so simple, I should use multiple programs but you shouldn't have to. Where is the logic in that? The controversy over yenc is the belief that more software is needed to view a file. That is true if you want to keep your current software and software that decodes yenc as well. Apparently I didn't make myself clear, yenc decodes like OE and more. When I mentioned upgrading I was referring to using software that would decode picture files across a greater array of file extensions and transfer techniques than what you may be currently using. I wasn't implying that "more" software was needed, only that a variety of software is available which decodes 99% of pictures posted today. The updated readers (probably a better choice of words) eliminates the need to have multiple programs. Yenc downloads and decodes picture files that are not yenc as well. What I see as the real controversy, is that a declared majority on this NG are comfortable with their software and don't want to update/upgrade (you pick) it. I have no argument with that at all. What I was pointing out, is there comes a time when a newer, more developed technique comes along. If you would rather fly a Cessna 152 rather than a Lear Jet because the 152 is simpler to operate then a very respected choice has been made. On the other hand when certain constraints have been placed on you such as distance over a given time frame, then the other choice is obviously just as respectable. Woody, your solution to yenc posters is just to stick them in the killfile. Nobody is trying to dictate what you should use. If you don't want to see my pictures "only" because I post with yenc then you deprive yourself. I loose no sleep over it. Ray O'Hara, you made more sense with your reply than anyone else. why should i add another program? i don't killfile yenc-ers to be rude but just to remove clutter. You can't ask for more honesty than that. I just wish others who don't like yenc would be a bit more tolerant. Others try to make a point with lying, name calling and being belligerent. That's what irritates me. why should i waste space on my machine for a program i don't want, and which forces me to download several posts to a special folder and combine them just to see one picture? I too have seen posts where a single jpg picture file gets put in a folder and can not be decoded unless you do what you mentioned. I agree 100%, they are a pain to view and I simply pass them up. Those files however, are not expressly yenc. They are simply posted in a manner our readers are not familiar with. the truth is , if you want people to see your stuff put it in a format they will use. I almost agree with you on that issue. I have a limitation on what I can post & view each month. The news service is free with my access plan. Yenc makes it possible to use the service without keeping score. I can't keep everyone happy. Personally, I think what irritates non-yenc users the most, is that you might not always be aware your opening a yenc file. When they realize what happened it's to late. its an unmoderated group. so there are no rules, just custom. so feel free to post in yenc, but also expect to be killfiled by many of us who don't use it. it's nothing personal, You're the first person to admit it and I admire your candor, thank you. I have no problem with others putting me in a killfile. Again, not all things are for all people. I'm not a hugh poster. I may only upload a few pictures a week to some weeks with no pictures. Beware that I will ignore all flames. Anyone here can email me directly if they want to continue this topic. Just ask for my email address. I was putting in my four and a half cents worth as my personal observation. This group needs to post pictures, not rhetoric. I will not be adding anymore to this thread.
