Default Videotaped fatal crash today

Been watching the news footage of the emergency crash landing all day today.
News is reporting pilot radiod "oil pressure dropping" then hit utility pole
near golf course, killing pilot. It's an awful thing to see.

Fox went on to say small planes should all install parachutes for $15k each,
claiming "if it saves ONE life, it's worth it".

That's going to be great, some yuppie group is going to protest until this
is mandated. OR some producer of such product is going to get in with some
influential politician and get it mandated so he gets all of the business.

who/where/what?
Hitting a utility pole seems to fall in the realm of pilot control or
some such. Need more information before I can pontificate or second
guess.
Back in the mid 80's I was working with a guy who did one of the first
aircraft parachute systems and was flying the Twin Beech at Perris, CA
to drop an 1800# slug with his system attached. Was a pretty
interesting series of flight tests. I had no idea what was going to
happen when we shifted the weight to the rear of the aircraft for drop.
Turned out to be ho-hum.

The CBS video in the link posted by Jay is a bit more clear. Watching
that one, I noticed that when the aircraft banked to the right (to avoid
the traffic?), it appeared to catch the utility wire under its right
wing. The tangled wire then seemed to lead the aircraft right into the
pole.

The footage, from a news helicopter, also showed the airplane veered at the
last moment to avoid some golfers and a vehicle on an adjacent road. Try
doing THAT when you're drifting down by parachute.
