DIY compensation tube

A machinist buddy of mine made me a TE tube for my 2-33 and it worked great, but I no longer have that ship. He is at sea so I can't reach him and I need to make another one for my "new" 2-33. It was just a tube about 4" long with a hole on the back side as you might expect and we mounted it behind the canopy up on top. Can anybody give me the size of the tube and the size of the hole?

1/4 diameter. 15 degree sweep. 1/16 hole 1-1/2 diameters down. We put it on the back of the pitot/static array on 2-33's sticking up about 3 inches.

I made a simple TE probe out of a brass tube for my Dad's Open Cirrus years ago that worked well based on Oran Nick's article in SOARING, March 1977 (page 23.) Dick Johnson made one for the PW-5 based on Oran Nick's design, but decided the sweepback wasn't necessary on that particular ship. See SOARING magazine April 1998.

The SOARING magazine archives at the SSA website are a wonderful resource for SSA members. Even though I have every SOARING magazine ever printed (since the 1930's) the online archives make it easy to look up topics and authors. It is also interesting how I get sidetracked looking at other articles, many of which are about the same topics and issues we discuss today regarding cross country flying, club flying, getting new members, training and safety, etc.
