Icom A14 handheld radio headset?
Hi, I purchased an Icom A14 handheld to carry with me flying, but I
really don't want to be juggling it in the cockpit. Is there a popular headset among glider pilots which will work with this radio? Something lightweight, but I'd prefer an over the head headset rather than behind the ears, single earplug, etc. Thanks Tom |

Icom A14 handheld radio headset?
There is a remote PTT button for the A 14 that you can attach to the
stick or brake handle. You can clip the radio to your shoulder harness and itīs small enough that it doesnīt bother much. You kind of have to talk out of the corner of your mouth but it beats fumbling around with your left hand when it should be free for the brakes, flaps, etc.. A speaker/microphone is another option but I prefer the remote PTT. I donīt like headsets in gliders. You canīt listen to the glider well and they get uncomfortable on long flights. My 0.02... Because you don't have engine noise to deal with you can simply dispense with the ear piece and use the handheld speaker or on board speaker. The mic quality of these is amazing and they are so tiny and lightweight you forget you have them on. They can be clipped to sunglasses or worn with a headband. No matter which way you turn your head the mic is right there which is even nicer than a boom mic. In a training glider which you are getting into and out of regularly managing the cords and headsets is a pain so boom mics are in order in that case. |

Icom A14 handheld radio headset?
most popular and best price /quality is Plantronics MS50-T30-3
see http://wingsandwheels.com/page9.htm the Telex 5x5 Pro-III is also excellent.but a bit more expensive I also suggest using the IC-PTT along with the Icom headset adapter for the simplest and least cumbersome remote PTT switch though you can use some cheaper G/A types (I have these also) regards Tim Please visit the Wings & Wheels website at www.wingsandwheels.com "tstock" wrote in message ...
