[ A UUEncoded file (Rolls-Royce thrust measuring rig.JPG) was included here. ]

More popularly known as the Flying Bedstead.

Two R-R Nenes for lift and puffer jets for directional control.

This picture shows the second rig, XK426, which flew on 12 November 1956
but crashed on 27 November 1957 on a tethered flight after hitting the
gantry and killing the pilot, Wg Cdr H G F Larson.

The surviving rig, XJ314, flew on 9 July 1953 tethered and on 3 August
1954 free. It completed 224 tethered and 16 free flights by December
1954. It is now in the Science Museum in London.

all happened.

In fact that reminds me did anyone see the film about the German who escaped
from Canada into USA , he tried to steal a hurricane from Hucknall in the
film , some good footage of Hucknall
