"Sherman's Lagoon"
The somewhat obscure comic strip, "Sherman's Lagoon," had a fairly creditable PBY in its July 20 cartoon: http://www.slagoon.com/dailies/SL03.07.27.gif. I'm not aware of any PBYs that are used as water bombers (don't think they'd be very good at it...) but this strip has had realistic WW II aircraft previously--a TBF/TBM a couple of years ago IIRC. Does anybody know whether the artist (Jim Toomey) is a WW II or airplane buff? |

Most of the PBY's used for fire fighting have been reengined with Wright R-2600 hundred engines which is probably what makes them satisfactory for that demanding work. Not sure though how many are still active in that role. John Dupre' |
