Wasn't the real story of the 'Colditz Cock', the building of the
replica, and the reunion, a very recent documentary on public TV?

One of our glider students was vestigially "turned on to soaring" by a
boyhood viewing of a 1959 TV episode of "One Step Beyond" ("the
Reunion"), in which members of a small german glider club are haunted ca
WWII by a lost sailplane (one sees a "Cinema" do a winch launch).

I recorded the Brosnan version off the air and ran through it at high speed
(DVR's are wonderful!) looking in vain for the glider scene. Maybe the
channel cut it out... where in the movie does the scene appear?

Has anyone compiled a list of movies in which gliders appear? I tried
googling, and it turned up some of the obvious names, such as _The
Thomas Crown Affair_ and _The Boy Who Flew With Condors_, but nothing
like a comprehensive listing.

in the movie _Wind_)

In the U.S., the latest Ameriprise commercial has a very brief clip of a
glider: a cockpit view and then an outside view. Maybe two seconds total.

That'll be the outsize Duo Discus which apparently
has sufficient room in it for the person in the back
(Brosnan) to reach over the instrument panel and the
person in the front (Renee Russo) in flight in order
to show her how to move the stick. Not only that, but
it has the only leftwards opening DD canopy (allegedly
because the vain Mr Brosnan wants to be shot from the
right hand side).

It's about 3/5 way through IIRC.

Many years ago in the UK there was an advert for either
Cinzano or Martini (or some other upmarket drink) that
featured some gliders flying around an impressive looking
mountain top chateau.

At:

There are many gliding videos, including a funny Dutch
insurance commercial, where two trial flighters believe
the other is the instructor, and proceed in taking
off...

Also, an ASH25 keeps up with a military jet

Found another movie...sounds great...."The Sky Trap" directed by Ron
Howard in 1980. Plot is of a glider pilot that lands out on a runway
close to the border and accidently disturbs drug smugglers.....sounds
like a normal day in Arizona or Texas! I haven't seen it, but you can
bet I will try to find this film. Besides which, Ron Howard is a
pretty good director!

Oops, almost forgot the "Tears for Fears" Video -- "Everyone wants to
rule the world"...almost all of the beginning are glider flight scenes.
According to a quote by the Director, he considers the 2-33 scene's to
be "Flights of Fantasy".
