Any Moldless Composite Designed Amphibians?
I was wondering if their are any moldless composite designed
amphibians? I am definitely not an aeronautical engineer and don't want to try to design something. Some examples of this type of construction a Long-EZ, Cozy, Quickie, Q-200, Vari-Eze, Velocity I know their are some drawbacks to this type of construction: mainly that the strength to weight is less compared to molded parts, the surface finish needs a lot of work and it must be stored out of the sun. Brock I'm not sure if the Glass Goose was moldless or premolded - it was kind of a mess anyway, the blunt aft sections of the fuselage shed vortices into the pusher prop, and produced uncommanded yaws at cruising speed of 20-30 degrees. Gary Legare was the genius behind that design. Looks pre-molded: http://www.glassgoose.com/index.html Hopefully they fixed the aerodynamic problem with vortex generators or a redesign. Peter van Dine out of Annapolis designed and built the Merganser: http://www.1000aircraftphotos.com/Co...lborg/9192.htm http://www.eaachapter478.org/Newslet...Newsletter.pdf Look for a photo of a COMPLETELY different amphib also built by Pete. Merganser Aircraft 7656 Binnacle Ln, Owings, MD (410) 741-5075‎ Air Shark, Seawind, those were definitely pre-molded. |
