Default Battery Packs for Icom hand-held radios

For those of us who are using an Icom hand-held radio like the IC A20,
IC A21, IC A2 or similar with an 1100mAh battery pack, this may be of
interest: instead of buying an aftermarket pack, which run about $65,
I dropped mine off at the local Batteries+ store and asked if they can
rebuild it. The store carries the required NiMh cells and they have
the spot-welder to attach the connecting tabs. They were able to
rebuild my pack for only $40.

The BatteriesAmerica and and Batteries+ type stores have the ability
to open sealed cases and then seal them back up. They use Ultrasonic
welding to seal it back up I think??? Pretty slick.

Back when I ran a municipal radio shop, I sent sealed battery packs to various
venders for battery replacement. Don't know how they did it, but it was usually
hard to find the seam.
