Hi Chip,
Thanks for the kind words. I do my best to be helpful. I'm sure from time to time customers will reach me when I'm tired or swamped with work and come to the conclusion (from my tone) that I don't care or I don't have time for them. I suppose that is true for all of us. If nothing else, I do mean well.... Notes like yours below help keep me motivated and happy. Thanks!!!! Paul Remde Cumulus Soaring, Inc. http://www.cumulus-soaring.com "Chip Bearden" wrote in message om... Henryk is correct that the first iteration of the table only included the software I sell and support. But you are correct that I've since added all the other software packages. Thanks, Paul Remde Cumulus Soaring, Inc. http://www.cumulus-soaring.com This table is a great service and I hope pilots who consult it will, as Paul hopes, consider buying from him. I upgraded my flight software this summer from Paul and was impressed with his response to my post-sale questions/suggestions. After-sales support is often more erratic than pre-sales hand holding. That was not my experience with Paul, however. I was also very grateful when, after my flight recorder failed during a major contest, he generated a new password so I could use my PDA with my loaner flight recorder...when I called him from the grid during his lunch hour! Thanks, again, Paul, for the prompt response. Chip Bearden |

Hi Richard,
I've seen the list. It is impressive to be sure. The tough part in my opinion it to create a comparison table that doesn't list 1000 "standard" features that all the programs offer. I'm trying to avoid "information overload". I am also trying to avoid listing items that are minor items or items that don't easily compare with other products. Anything that is a major advantage will be highlighted of course. I'm trying extremely hard to avoid playing favorites so I appreciate any feedback you can offer. I'll try to pull useful data and a few additional comparison points from the WinPilot features list. Can you help me fill in the compatibility chart? I can't find that much detail on the WinPilot pages. Thanks, Paul Remde "RHP" wrote in message om... Please see http://www.craggyaero.com/WinPilot%20Freature.htm for an almost complete list of WinPilot Features. Sorry but the list has about 100 items and is growing every day. Of course I can't mention every single features found in every product, so I'm trying to hit the unique features found in each product. You can view the very preliminary table he http://www.cumulus-soaring.com/software-ppc.htm The table also shows levels of compatibility with several flight recorders. Both parts of the table are in need of review. I have done my best first shot but I'm sure I've missed some key features and may have some of the compatibility data wrong. Please review the table and e-mail suggestions or corrections to me. I sincerely want the table to be a useful resource for glider pilots. Thank you, Paul Remde Cumulus Soaring, Inc. http://www.cumulus-soaring.com |

I was looking through your features list and have a couple of answers
that may be helpful. The tasman t1000 has support for an additional vario so I presume this is where they are retreiving the altitude info. Just a guess though. I am not sure what a ReCo is. The program will parse pressure altitude information from Volkslogger, C302 Garmin, Colibri Reco and Tasman. At least there is a dropdown list in one of the setup pages for altitude selection. I do know it works with a Volkslogger as this is what I use. It will also read information from several flight computers. I am unsure of their level of support as I have not used any of them. I am guessing that the promram retrieves information such as bugs setting MC setting and bugs potential. Only a guess though. The computers in the dropdown list are B50, C302, Colibri, EW, ReCo, B50/Colibri combo, Ique and Tasman. Additionally with a C302 it can be used to transfer waypoints, glider/polar information, pilot information and transfer flights from the logger to removeable memory card. It also has support for task declaration for firmware version 2.63 in the 302. There is also support for a terrain database. It can with this information tell elevation AGL. Although there was discussion about FGA over terrain, I am uncertain if this has been implemented or not and if there are plans to do it in the future. Although it will not display a top down view of an IGC file or playback a flight, it will show a profile view of the baro over terrain. Hopes this helps a little. SEE YA!!! I have added Soaring Pilot to the comparison table. However, the list of supported devices is not useful because the table gets into specifics as to what features are supported with each device. How can it support a Tasman? Tasman varios don't connect to external devices. What is a ReCo? I use Henryk's software exclusively and
in my opinion the feature Henryk mentions can definitely be called a "Climb Maximizer". One very quick glance per turn, very effective in assisting in finding and staying in the core of the thermal. David Henryk Birecki wrote in message . .. "Paul Remde" wrote: Certainly no table is going to be perfect, but I'm doing my best. I agree on that wholeheartedly. Thank for your feedback. Does GPS_LOG really have a "Climb Maximizer" similar to WinPilot and Themi that directs you to the center of the thermal? Cool! Well, I do not know what the other software does (never used it), but GPS_LOG WinCE does go into a mode where it shows you where you should circle to be in lift. It is a highly enlarged view of track where lift is color coded and width of line indicates "more than" running average or "less than" average. It is very effective (even on black and white screen) for me, but then... I am biased . Ask GPS_LOG WinCE users. Henryk |

I think Henryk is talking about RICO (Redwood Instrument Company)who made
varios in the San Francisco bay area some years ago. The company was owned and operated by Pete and Eunice Newgard (EP). AFAIK they now only make medical equipment, in the Seattle area. I'll bet it's more profitable, too... -Bob "Matthew Hoover" wrote in message m... I was looking through your features list and have a couple of answers that may be helpful. Hi
There is also a free software under http://www.xcsoar.com/. They haven't much done in the last month, but if it works on you IPAQ (eg my 3660) it is worth to see. Fast and easy to setup; uses normal database from the internet. There is no manual and maybe next year they want some money for it. Cheers FW. |
