Default Bush Proposes To Cut Funding For Airport Improvements.

In the face of unprecedented airline delays, Bush proposes to cut
funding for airport improvements.

Murray criticized the Bush administration’s “short-sighted
proposal” to cut Airport Improvement Program grants by $765
million. “I believe we must continue to invest in our
infrastructure, and this includes our airports,” said Murray.

That's a cut of about 3.5% less than FY 2007.

HEARING ON FY 2008 BUDGET REQUEST FOR DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
...

I am concerned that by starving the FAA’s capital programs, the
Administration is slowly setting its Next Generation Air
Transportation System effort -- and ultimately the aviation system
as a whole -- up to fail.

Similarly, the Administration is proposing a significant cut in
funding for the Airport Improvement Program. The Administration's
budget request provides $2.75 billion for the Airport Improvement
Program (AIP) in FY 2008 -- $950 million less than the level
authorized for FY 2007, and $765 million less than the
House-passed FY 2007 Continuing Resolution, H.J. Res. 20.

When faced with an acute shortage of airport infrastructure, cut its
funding. Another example of the sagacious insight of the Bush
administration. Only 314 days to go. :-(
