MOST UGLY GLIDER ?
Andreas Maurer wrote:
Messerschmitt Me 321. I've seen film of these and the Me 323 flying. They showed quite alarming amounts of flexibility and general aero-elasticity when flying, surely enough to affect controllability. I can't imagine how difficult they must have been to fly. I think this film is in the Imperial War Museum collection. -- martin@ | Martin Gregorie gregorie. | org | Zappa fan & glider pilot |

In Russia we have a saying (It could be Poland) There are no ugly women, there is only lack of vodka. -- Mike Lindsay As a Pole visiting London some time ago; I doubt if I know one single Pole that could drink enough of vodka to beautify British women. Applying your simplified method to gliders - there isn't one British made glider worth mentioning... |

You'd be hard put to come across many geniune natives, of any sex, on a casual visit to London these days - even 'some time ago' ! If you speak the Polish lanuage, you'll know what I mean ! But the PW5 ist still really ugly.
wrote in message ups.com... Bit prejudiced against Poland, aren't we....did you already forgot how you abandoned Poland, who supposed to be your allied, during WW II to Hitler and then to Stalin? Do I have to remind you of the Polish pilots helping to save London? And their superior flying skills? And you dare to bring some garbage statements about Russia and vodka? And then you are throwing Poland into this equation? I have heard, I believe on the BBC News (isn't that English TV?) that England is leading the world in deaths related to liver cirrhosis...so, maybe your stupid comments about Poles and vodka are little bit out of place? And, since you are the Alpha & Omega, maybe you can design your own glider....best L/D 55,000 at Mach 1.2 speed...this is really shame because I have quite a few friends in England and you are only giving them a black eye. You don't resemble the cool Brits that I know. And then you can throw your racist garbage out of flying sailplanes. Jacek Kobiesa Washington State |

But the PW5 ist still really ugly. Ugly or beautiful it's a matter of liking and liking is not the thing to discuss. Personally I don't know why people don't like the look of PW-5, it's a nice small glider, very pleasant to fly. regards -- --=JJay=-- www.aeroklub.deblin.pl, my photos at airfoto.pl - http://tiny.pl/xlkk Get smart - http://www.GetFireFox.com |

"Nyal Williams" wrote in message ... Jacek, I doubt this remark was made against either Russians or Poles. The idea expressed is a universal joke and in this context it has attributed wit to the Russians and/or the Poles. Here's to pretty women! Here's to vore modka! Hic! bummer Ninden, Mervada |

But the PW5 ist still really ugly. Pee Wee may not be the apple of your eye, but apparently it flys fairly well. A quick look at the FAI website and I found this little nugget. FAI Claim number : 12269 Sub-class DW General Category Type of record : Speed over a triangular course of 100 km Course/location : Chos Malal (Argentina) Performance : 136.92 km/h Pilot : Osvaldo M. FERRARO (Argentina) Glider : PW-5 Date : 28.11.2005 Previous record : 115.38 km/h (02.08.2003 - Larry PARDUE, USA) Maybe at the end of the soaring day, grab a bottle of Vodka or strap on those beer goggles and maybe the Pee Wee will get better looking. My vote goes to to the woodstock http://www.wingsandwheels.com/images/WEDNES~1.JPG Oh, I think there are plenty of homlier-looking gliders than that. That may not be the nicest-looking Woodstock, but I think that there are much stronger contenders for the title out there. Personally, I've always been a fan of the 12-meter Woodstock. It's a great little ship within its intended context: getting into the air cheaply in something you built using simple woodworking tools. When finished with varnish and clear dope they have such a pretty variety of natural colors and textures. And when you take the time to form a nice canopy and nose bowl it goes a long way towards hiding the somewhat angular nature of the design. The problem with the Woodstock is that the context for which it was developed is pretty much extinct. Kids these days tend to spend too much time on the couch, and they don't take woodworking classes. When they want to soar, they tend to do it by investing money and not time.
