An American pilot fined for the killing of four Canadian soldiers in
Afghanistan in 2002 "should've faced charges," says Esprit de Corps
publisher Scott Taylor.

"This wasn't like a doctor losing a patient on an operating table,"
Mr. Taylor said Wednesday.

"This is like a doctor going into the wrong operating room, being
warned not to do it, killing four people and getting two half-months
pay."

U.S. fighter pilot Maj. Harry Schmidt was found guilty of dereliction
of duty, reprimanded and fined $5,000 US on Tuesday for killing four
Canadian soldiers and wounding eight others on April 18, 2002.

"Your wilful misconduct directly caused the most egregious
consequences imaginable, the deaths of four coalition soldiers and
injury to eight others," states the reprimand letter from Lt.-Gen.
Bruce Carlson of the United States 8th Air Force.
