Thanks, I enjoyed that.
What do the Perlan flights have to offer that balloons don't already measure? |

This is unlike a balloon, which is limited to sampling one vertical column[1] though that air mass. [1] distorted by the vertical wind profile, of course, but still limited by its ability to control only its vertical ascent/descent rate. -- martin@ | Martin Gregorie gregorie. | Essex, UK org

I caught it, by trying out the 'virtual cockpit' URL, at a bit below 12000 and some distance south of El Calafete. Initially it seemed to almost hold height before gliding back to the field, shedding height and landing. -- martin@ | Martin Gregorie gregorie. | Essex, UK org

The flight was in weak wave, but usable for pilot training, flutter testing using the built-in wing oscillators, systems checks, and operations experience. -- Eric Greenwell - Washington State, USA (change ".netto" to ".us" to email me) - "A Guide to Self-Launching Sailplane Operation" https://sites.google.com/site/motorg...ad-the-guide-1 - "Transponders in Sailplanes - Dec 2014a" also ADS-B, PCAS, Flarm http://soaringsafety.org/prevention/...anes-2014A.pdf |
