Buy the one from the web site with the Global scenery, It's awesome.

I think there's a bit of misunderstanding here.

X-Plane is updated by the author quite often. But you get the first release
(currently, release 8.00) on the DVD.

Then, after you have installed X-Plane 8.00 from the DVD, you can simply
download the latest release (8.40 at this moment) from the website
www.x-plane.com, and update it.

Obviously, later releases have always some improvements in realism and other
feautres over previous ones.


And, for recent versions (8.2*-- or so), there is auto-update
software which picks needed updates without any hassle.. pretty neat
actually..
