Default Winpilot climb maximiser

Just got the winpilot pro version , I had the adv for 1 year

I'd appreciate Your opinion on the climb maximiser ,
does it really work ? distracting ?

Thanks

Very distracting whilst wave or ridge soaring, can be handy whilst
thermalling if you are not quite "switched on", but I generally turn it off.

I was very skeptical when I got mine, but I found that it really works for
thermals--especially blue ones.

I find it useful for finding thermals that I've lost, especially in windy or
turbulent conditions. It definitely works...Tom

Hi,

I intend to take advantage of the February offer and was thinking of
Winpilot Pro but noticed it said I needed a 302 or B50 etc.
I like the idea of the coloured thermal/strength trail in the pro
version and possibly the climb maximiser. Will these work without a
suitable vario input or do they need a B50 etc. Also do you keep
getting "nag" screens "vario data not present" if no B50 etc
connected?

Is there any advantage of going for Winpilot Pro if I don't have one
of these.

I have an S-nav in my panel and will be feeding my Ipaq from either a
Garmin GPS or from a Navman jacket.

Regards

As I understand it, WinPilot Pro *does* need special hardware to
feed it both pressure altitude and accurate wind-speed. They are
happy to also provide you with the code for the Advanced version
when you buy Pro, thus you can fly ships not equipped with the fancy
hardware.
