Stearman for rent in Bay Area
Anyone know anywhere in or near the Bay Area that has a Stearman
for rent (not necessarily solo) just on an hourly basis (i.e. no joining fee plus monthly fee like WVFC)? The place I fly acro out of (Attitude at Livermore) has this approach to the finances, but despite occasional threats of getting one doesn't have a Stearman in its forseeable future. I thought it would be kind of fun to fly one. Thanks, John |

(And I think it's a UPF-7, but don't quote me -- there were a lot of Waco models.) I don't have the phone number (It's painted on the bottom of the wing.), but if he's not parked at the north end of the runway, you might find him in the end hangar of E-row, catty-corner from Air West. Or if you fly in at lunch-time some, of the elderly riff-raff at the center counter at the Sky Kitchen in the terminal building might be able to give you a steer. Or you could ask in the office across the lounge from the Sky Kitchen. Don |

It's not exactly "Bay Area," but there's one for rent in Columbia, CA, about an hour's flight from the Bay: http://www.letsgofly.com/Rides-Tours.htm Technically, it's not a Stearman, but a Brown. I don't think you could tell the difference, though. |

Don't have the phone number, but you might try Oakdale Aviation at Oakdale
airport. They had one...then didn't...but they may have one now. You can find their number in the California Pilots Guide. Attitude has been talking about getting a Stearman when I was teaching there many moons ago (1997-99). -John *You are nothing until you have flown a Douglas, Lockheed, Grumman or North American* |

I've made myself a note to contatct them in May to see if I can book a ride in June when I'm there for the Sears Point NASCAR race. Regards, Jay Beckman Student Pilot - KCHD 7.4 Hrs ...
