Default 3(F)Wing RCAF Zweibrucken

Does anyone know the current status of the military airbase at
Zweibrucken West Germany? It was the home of RCAF 3(F)Wing in the
1950's-60's later being taken over by the USAF. Who is there now or is it
even a military installation these days? Just curious, as I have many fond
memories of the place from the early 1960's when the base converted from the
F-86 and the Cf-100 to Cf-104's.

The old 3(F) Wing Station is now a thriving Airport and Retail Outlet Centre. The Peter Cunningham Memorial Arena is also still in full operation. There are very few landmarks left from the RCAF days: water tower and Telecom Ground building beside it; the Chapels and little else that I recall from my 8 years there.

The Airport now operates flights to Berlin and London, among other medium distance and holiday locations. It is taking over much of the Saarbruecken traffic because of it's easy accessibility to the Autobahn, great free parking and just a couple of minutes drive to downtown Zweibruecken.

The Retail Outlet Centre is a very large, modern complex, attracting busloads of tourists, daily, from all around the region.

All in all and amazing transformation which is still a work in progress.

The Base is now a GET AWAY airport for the Well-To-Do. They have a number of high-end shops such as Tomy Hilfiger etc. Some of the old buildings are still there and being used, the Church that my wife & I got married in is still there and my old Barraks as well. I have some pics.
