I thought doppler was about useless over water. (?)
Just repeating 'war stories' from the F-105G guys...

That would seem to be unlikely, as PACAF spec'd doppler sets for 'their'
F-100Ds and Fs, dash -20s, specifically for overwater navigation out of
range of TACAN. You could ID them by the presence of a small intake in
the leading edge of the fin, just aft of where the fairing joins the fin
proper.

Wassat? Some sort of device for measuring the distance between two
onion-sellers' bicycles?

My boss was a B-26 driver during WW2. Afterwards he was doing a demo
flight for some VIPs at Ft. Bragg, NC. The group included Truman,
Eisenhower and Marshall who lived nearby in Southern Pines. Anyway,
his intervelometer which was designed to drop bombs at a certain
interval ^

Seemed to work okay on Buccaneers and Sea Kings, at least, else why
bother fitting it?
