Default What's on YOUR Christmas list?

Ho, ho, ho....!

Me, I'm asking Santa for a new, solid-state transponder -- which is about as
dull as socks & underwear, but the third digit on mine keeps going wacky
once in while. I *hate* it when ATC thinks I've set my squawk code
wrong...

What are you hoping to find in YOUR stocking on Christmas morn?

A better audio panel than the King KMA-24, a bottle of MacCallans scotch,
and ammo.

I hope you're using each of these three items at different times...

Well, I got a new idea as of Saturday morning. We had a nice morning trip
up to Sedona for breakfast. Life is good: cold, calm air, plane's running
good, good company at the restaurant. Then we fire up to come home, and all
of a sudden, the Attitude Indicator doesn't know which way is up anymore!
About 10 minutes after takeoff it had figured it out, but this is not good.
So, it's time for a new gyro.

Hey Mike -- I just went through this, with both the DG and the AI. Give the
Gyro House a call -- they've been great to work with.

See 'em at http://www.gyrohouse.com/ .

Ohhh gawd, here I go again doing the broken record thing... jeez, why is it
always me that has to be the bad guy...
RANT ON
When your life depends on an instrument you do NOT overhaul/repair it, you
replace it with brand new... Ask Senator Wellstone how much he saved when
his son had the gyro system "repaired" instead of replacing with brand
new...
rant off
Secondary flight instruments, clocks, tachometers, temp gauges, etc., are
not important... Take a hammer to em for all I care... But attitude gyros,
asi, altimeter, compass, are your life...

Well, Denny, I have been assured by people who know the business that a
rebuilt gyro instrument is in many ways better than new. All the "wear
parts" are brand new, and everything inside is "tweaked" to precision by the
technician who rebuilds it. In many cases, the only thing not replaced is
the housing.

But I'm VFR by choice anyway. I won't risk my life behind ANY vacuum
instruments, period.
