Default Zenith carb float help

I have a Limbach SL-1700 EA1 aircraft engine (1700 cc VW). It is in a
Scheibe SF-28A.

The carburetor is a Zenith 28 ZXF and the float is defective (plastic). The
Limbach factory has not sold parts for this carb for 25 years.

Need a new float. Would love a rebuild kit, also. With the unfavorable
exchange for the Euro, and all the necessary parts to change to the Zenith
150 CD carb, the cost is about $2,200 (an ouch here for emphasis) - all
because of a bad float.

Any ideas? The Aero-Carb looks like an option, although that would take
some modifications, and I would rather be flying than building.

Thanks, Colin

Worth a look , they seem to have every carb and spare at a good price.

OK, Lawyer Lamb, regarding your carb, if I were you and if I had your
lucrative prospects I'd go with a couple of Webers on that Limbach.

Seriously though, with that VW-like engine you might have to play
around with the intake manifold and breather filter, but there are a
number of different carbs that will make that engine purr. Bings,
Mikunis, Holleys, Strombergs, Keihins, Dellorto, Solex, SU --- to name
a few. Cheap here in the USA too.

I'll bet you can find a float for that Zenith here in the USA.

There was a VW-powered aircraft in the ultralight section at Oshkosh a
few years ago with a law mower carb on it. That thing flew and flew
and flew. Let your imagination soar.

And if the carb won't come off the mower... :-)

Careful with the AeroCarb - Might want to look at a Harley carb of
some sort.
Or find a CD150 from a british car used.

I've been running an older (1970's) Harley 1200 carb on my 1775 VW for a
couple of years. It performs great with NO modifications. Picked up a couple
of them up at a swap meet for 10 bucks each. Beats the hell out of that high
dollar German crap.
