Default rudder pedal springs

a fellow kind of remembered there was an alternative to springs between the
firewall and each rudder pedal for keeping tension on the rudder cables.
Thought something about 2 pullies...

anybody know about this?

Thanks, Dick

Default rudder pedal springs

He remembered some concern over the pullies needing to be mounted loosely
enough to accommodate a pedal being pushed forward without having the cable
come out of the sheave...

I can't get my head around a good way to accomplish this?

With two springs. Lighter, cheaper, self-adjusting.

If one spring breaks, the other will pull the rudder to one side.

Only if the pilot has no feet. I have 2 springs on my right rudder and
1 spring on the left. It still takes a little right rudder to keep the
ball centred at cruise but I'm not worried about any or all springs
breaking. Dan's right the springs can be eliminated with a cable,
turnbuckle, swages, thimbles, pulleys, brackets, etc. I fail to see
what the gain is over a nice light self adjusting system is.

Yup. Just as it does in a Cessna 150 or 172 or any one of
dozens of other airplanes. The pilot will notice it, will have to keep
constant pressure on one pedal, and will snag it after he lands if he
has any sense at all. There have been pilots on the RAP group who
complain that the local rental clunker needs constant right or left
pedal pressure to keep the ball anywhere near centered. That airplane
will most likely have a busted spring. Most likely the left spring,
since it's the one that gets stretched the most often and for the
longest time: right rudder on takeoff and climb stretches the left
spring.
