Too bad, I'm reading 'Over the Beach', about initial combat ops in VN off
the
'O' boat...

Finished that one just last week. It is a good read.

Default Oriskany to be sunk near Pensacola

For those interested:

AP is reporting such this today from the Navy Dept.

"No date has been set for the sinking in 212 feet of water 22 miles southeast
of Pensacola."

In addition this was reported: "The sinking will make the Oriskany the largest
vessel in the United States deliberately sunk to create a reef. But it is
unlikely to hold that distinction for long. The military will soon begin
reviewing places to sink 24 other ships, including three aircraft carriers,
Navy spokeswoman Patricia Dolan said."

This certainly brings up some possible scenarios .... g

You have to wait until the Chinese name them.

Talk about the Tico as well...F-8, A-4, Spads...nice mix.

Any idea which other carriers?

AP story says: "Forrestal, Independence and Constellation". No mention of Sara
and Ranger! I thought Connie nad the Big 'I' were in "ready-Reserve".

Sigh. My first cruise was on O-Boat. Quietest stateroom I ever had, the
easiest platform to do the waving, no TV briefs (you got to know the air
wing), only one wardroom (you got to know ship's company folks). Such is
the price of technological progress.
