I really don't understand the purpose of this commercial. How is it supposed to make me want to buy a Land Rover?

Rv6 Driver,
I think the advertisement is attempting to link their vehicles to the romance and excitement of aviation, specifically, soaring has all the cachet of aviation while also being perceived as 'off the beaten path' and individualistic.

Everyone I ever spoke to about soaring seemed interested, even if they had no intention of ever participating.

advertisers sell the Sizzle, not the Steak!!

As a marketing guy who has produced commercials ...most people over think the purpose of a 30 second spot. You want it to relate to a brand and stick in the viewers mind. Any sub association is a bonus (landrover = free spirit/adventure etc. ). My guess here is Land rover used to be the symbol of off road venture vehicles. When owned by the British they could be found in many continents and were a work horse trucky vehicle before SUV became a household name. Now I believe its owned by a Indian company Tata Motors and over the years has been displaced by a competitive line of SUVs. Time to refurbish the brand and ad some flash and conversation... hence the sailplane zooming as the vehicle drives through mountain roads.
