Posting activity decline?

B I see a huge decline overall in Usenet postings in all the B groups I participate in. B My guess is that more and more big providers are dropping more B than alt.*... Not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps the better posters will persist with quality posts and Usenet will return to the good ol days. Perhaps Santa will visit this year! -- Know all and you will pardon all. ~ Thomas à Kempis |

Is something wrong or was the last post here really on Friday? Been gone awhile. Came back to check it out and I see no posting activity for 1.5 days and wondering what's up. Ricky...New P, will be A soon...(A&P) Meaningful contributions have been way down for sometime since the likes of MX, Bertie, etc have highjacked this forum. Most have moved to Pilots of America unfortunately. I come back and check once in a while, but there is generally nothing. I am a member of the Cessna Pilots Association and have automatic feeds form their formuns. I looked at PoA, but just too much to wade though. There is something unique in the usenet format that I like, or maybe it is just hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Ross C-172F |

...I looked at PoA, but just too much to wade though. It was my opinion at first, too, but there are two nice features that help overcome this. First, the dark menu bar at the top of the forums page has a "New Posts" option. When you select this, it shows only the subjects that have received new posts since your last visit. Second, when the "New Posts" are selected, if you click the little checkmark box next to the subject lines, it takes you directly to the entries that you haven't read. In this way, it works very similar to traditional Usenet... only new stuff is presented, and postings are "marked read" when you're done so you don't have to wade through them again (although you can scroll up to revisit them). Looking at the Google portrait of the group, there has been a huge decline in posts in the last couple of months: It comes and goes. While there are few posts there are a number who browse the group and respond when their particular interest comes up 400 and something so far in December, 962 last month. This time last year around 4500 for each of those months. To drop to this volume you have to go back to 1994. That isn't an ebb and flow that is a crash. We all know who to thank. |
