Default Wheel Pants Weight

I was wondering how much weight taking off the wheel pants would gain
me for cargo? I have a 1979 C152 with wheel pants and need to be able
to carry a little more weight. I've heard around 18 pounds, but does
anyone know for sure?

You should have gotten a list of equipment with that plane. Dig through the papers.
IIRC, the main gear fairings on my '69 Cessna 150 weighed 18 pounds. Don't remember
what the nose gear fairing weighed 'cause I never took it off.

But what is the tradeoff in speed?

As nearly as I can tell, removing the main fairings cost me between 1 and 2 knots.
You'd only notice it on a long cross-country flight.

On a Cessna almost all the drag is the nosewheel. You will notice the most
gain/loss there. The mains don't cause much drag that can be fixed by wheel
pants.

The W&B for my 78 152 says 18 pounds for the "speed fairings" Ha!

The POH page ii (right in the front, Performance Specifications), says 2
knots gain with fairings installed.
