I paid $120 last year at Radco, Eagle airpark, AZ en route to
the AOPA shindig. The nice folks there gave me 2 free tickets
since they couldn't use them, so I suppose I only paid $40.

I just got a bill for $185 from the guy on my field. Seems kind of steep.

Just paid 200 for a IFR. Our shop doesn't differentiate between IFR and VFR
checks.

Just looked at my checkbook. $53 at Airport Radio in Easton, PA. The owner is
an old friend, though. Other places in the area have charged me about $75.

For alignment due to intermittent Mode C I paid
C$330.00 - and the problem came back after 6 months - so twice in one year
- doesn't anyone guarantee stuff anymore?
When there is only one guy in the area doing it he's kinda got you.

Did that include the IFR static/altimeter test as well. The combo runs about $200
from the reputable shops around here. Much more at Capitol Avionics.

Because the transponder check involves 2-3 regulations in various
parts of the FAR, the avionics shops have discovered a loophole
that "they say" allows them to do the transponder check without
including a static/encoder check. They feed the altitude in from
the test box and if the Txpdr transmittes that same altitude, it is
deemed to check OK.
In the Tampabay area this simple Receive/Transmit check goes for
about $75.
