At http://www.vectorsite.net/avtomcat.html I found this:

"However, the Phoenix, nicknamed the "Buffalo" because of its size, is
so heavy that a Tomcat can't carry six of them if the aircraft is to
land on a carrier. No such restriction exists if the Tomcat is operating
off a land base. Another problem with carrying six Phoenix missiles is
that the drag of the two extra missiles on the wing glove pylons cuts
into aircraft performance and flight endurance. "

Is it true that the F-14 cannont carry 6 AIM-54s and land on a carrier?

IIRC, this is true of the TF-30 engined ones, but the
F-110 engined ones can carry 6.
It was limited by go around capability, and the greater
thrust and throttle response of the F-110 made a difference.

Does anyone else out there strongly feel that the folks at the TV
Networks who have censored out Daffy's beak getting blown off (Shoot
Me NOW!) deserve to be stripped naked, tied face down over a chair,
covered with moose musk, and set in the migratory path of a large
moose herd?

Actually, it was a function of maximum landing weight. That was raised
later in the program (some of which would be absorbed F110 engine weight
IIRC), but 6 Px would leave little (any?)left for fuel in any case.
