Default More Garmin 296 gripes

When running on batteries, it sometimes gives "low battery" warnings
with a fresh charge, and the battery level display shows a completely
discharged state. Restarting the unit clears the problem.

After about 3 months, the power cable fell apart at the GPS end.

Are you running the latest firmware? They've had a few updates in the short
time since it's been released.

good to hear this stuff about the 296. I was thinking about that one but
seems to have bugs.
I guess maybe I should buy the Lowrance AirMap 2000 or the AvMap EKP-IV.
Those units have bigger screens and better prices.

We shopped mHARD; talked to many, posted here...

Chose the Lowrance AirMap 1000...

It has met & exceeded all expectations...

Love the big screen! The Garmin's look pitiful in
comparison, and HAVE to be yoke mounted for these "older" eyes...

The AM 1000 monted on the yoke is like having a chart table
in front of the pilot... (Oh I wish) in comparison.. and CAN be
mounted in the panel if you wish...

The 2000 would be the ultimate in my opinion...

YMMV...
