[OT - mildly] Ping CWO4 Dave Mann and whomever - Pan Newsreader

Hi Dave!

Just wanted to letch ya know that -- due to hardware problems etc -- I
upgraded to Fedora 8. Still having hardware issues even after repair work,
but in the distro was the NEW Pan Newsreader, which I gave a try for a day
and a half.

Some interesting new ideas therein, but VERY poorly implemented, and many
necessary features -- like the ability to read /all/ the headers in case
you have to report an abuse or such -- are simply not there anymore.

Plus it crashed my machine, and even a reinstall wouldn't bring it back.
(NBD)

Needless to say, I have gone back to my old trusty "As she crawled across
the table...." version, and all is well once more.

In other words, AVOID it like unto the plague!

Thanks for the feedback. I've not used pan for some time, mainly
because it was a memory hog. Also, I discovered after some research,
that the guy who wrote it has flitted off on Yet Another Programming
Adventure (YAPA). YAPA is common when the programmer gets bored -- and
they do get bored easily especially if nothing is working.
