Yup, by all accounts he was. Makes it all the more mystifying
trying to figure out why he decided to stop showing up. (Shrug)

The mystery is why, after it's been thoroughly researched and documented,
you missed the answer. Well, hell, ignorance is certainly convenient.

But I think he is so honest
and open, If I could, I'd vote for him again.

As I understand, the F102s were being retired. Bush was
about to reach discharge, he had flown all the expected
hours and done all the days. He would not be trained for
another aircraft, he took the discharge.

Never drink and fly a fighter. Pull off to the side of the taxiway and
drink......THEN go fly!!!

I have become so totally disgusted and discouraged with the political
situation in the United States that the mere mention of the word lawyer to
me sends me into a rage.

Agree 100%.

After age 60, my father NEVER voted for incumbents of either party.
The idea was to keep new, fresh people in office -- and get 'em out
before they were corrupted.

I, of course, thought he was nuts, and argued that this only fed the
ever-increasing power of the permanent bureacracy. I am now prepared
to admit (some 13 years after his passing) that he was completely,
absolutely correct.

Another thing he advocated: A divided government. If you had a
Democratic Congress, make sure you had a Republican president -- and
vice versa.

I, of course, again thought he was nuts. I am now prepared to admit
that he was, once again, 100% correct. All you have to do is look at
the cluster-f*ck we've got going on in Washington to realize that
having both branches of the federal government (I'm not counting the
courts -- that's another issue) controlled by a single party is a very,
very bad idea. It shouldn't be -- but it is.

The Republicans have proven that they are incapable of governing, in
much the same way that the Democrats proved their incompetence when
they had complete dominance of the Federal Government. Therefore, for
the first time in my life, I am faced with the very real possibility of
voting for a Democrat in the fall -- or not voting at all.

It's disgusting, but I don't see any alternative.

Thought: Democrats had both house of Congress for all but two years from
1954 to 1995. During that time, they had both Congress and the White House
for 14 years. All 14 fo those from 1961 to 1994.

The R's, now have had both Congress and the WH for five years. So, when were
the foundation for the present cluster-f*$k laid out?

Recall, too, that FDR did his big power grabs during a time the Republicans
had Congress.

Then, too, "Ain't a dimes worth of difference" holds true, especially when
referring to statists.

Finally, all the bozo's were put into office via election by your friends
and neighbors (lining up at the trough).

What a surprise here... Those who seem to support W's politics also
believe he was a good pilot. Thos 'liberals' who dislike W as a
president seem to dismiss his previous services to our country and his
skills as a (F102) pilot.

I'm going to go against the grain... If W really flew F102's, and
lived to (not) tell about it, then I give him all the credit in the
world for being an accomplished and brave pilot. But I still contend
that W is a lousy president.
