. .. I'll be flying in to Houston Hobby in a few days. Any tips for a little plane driver? There's a few flight schools on the airport, so the controllers are used to dealing with students / low time pilots who might not be comfortable at a Class-B towered airport... Watch out for the intersection of Rwy 35 and Rwy 04 -- there's a bump that can get you back airborn if you still have a bit of speed when you cross it while landing on 35... But then again, that would require the winds to be out of the north and that hardly *ever* happens around here... At night, the airport is hard to find due to all the lights of the city encroaching upon it... You don't see the runway lights until you are nearly already lined up on the runway... Oh, BTW, why you flying into there when there are so many smaller airports around town? |

My sister lives in west Houston and I was think about going and see her. Do you
have any reconditions on smaller airports in the west Houston area? On Thu, 27 Apr 2006 18:39:06 GMT, "Grumman-581" wrote: Oh, BTW, why you flying into there when there are so many smaller airports around town? GeorgeC |

I usually fly into West Houston (IWS).
Very nice place. "GeorgeC" wrote in message ... My sister lives in west Houston and I was think about going and see her. Do you have any reconditions on smaller airports in the west Houston area? ... My sister lives in west Houston and I was think about going and see her. Do you have any reconditions on smaller airports in the west Houston area? It depends upon which part of west Houston... West Houston (IWS) is convenient for around the TX-6/I-10 area. David Wayne Hooks (DWH) is preferred if in the NW part of Houston, probably closest to Compaq/HP. Sugar Land (SGR) if preferred if in the SW part of Houston, around the TX-6/US-59 area. Weiser (EYQ) is preferred if you are around the US-290/TX-6 area or if you just want some BBQ. Westheimer (O07) is preferred if around the US-99/FM-1093 area. Kind of depends on your definition of 'west' and *how* 'west'... |

Weiser (EYQ) is preferred if you are around the US-290/TX-6 area or if you just want some BBQ. Westheimer (O07) is preferred if around the US-99/FM-1093 area. Kind of depends on your definition of 'west' and *how* 'west'... For the sake of comparison, the two above listed fields are relatively light on "services".. not a problem if you have someone coming to pick you up.. or dont mind pumping your own fuel.. or parking and or taxiing on grass. But if you are used to having a car on field, an attended terminal building, and an eye on servicing the transients/business types, then Hooks, West Houston and SGR are your practical alternatives. Not dissing Weiser or Westheimer, but just pointing out the differences. However, Weiser has the best fly-in barbecue in a 200 mile radius. Dave |
