Any Cessna 210 owners?

Does anyone here own an older model C210 (strut-wing models)? I'm
looking at a 1966 and would like to learn more about the real world
costs of operation as compared to the 182 I owned previously. I know
the insurance is a lot higher ($3800 vs. $1200), and fuel burn is
higher, but what about maintenance costs? Other than the gear saddle,
what are the other trouble spots? How much trouble is the gear saddle
in actuality?

I used to be a member of Cessna Pilots Assoc and found access to their
210 documentation quite useful. I was looking at an F model a couple of
years ago after deciding that the D model and years prior had some
issues with fuel tanks. I think the F model was where they switched from
bladders to wet wing, but I'd have to go back to check for sure. Isn't
the F model the '65 or '66?

They also have a well-respected 210 owners course that is almost always
sold out.

Cessna Owners Assoc isn't as focused on the maintenance aspects as far
as I can tell, but is rather focused on pilot safety issues.

available including very active discussion forums on all the models, where

The F is the '66 model. I'm not sure if it has wet wings or not, but I
think not as it was the next year, '67 when they went to the 90 gallon
tanks and I'm guessing that was when they switched away from the
bladders. However, that is only a guess.

Interesting that the PILOTS association focuses on maintenance and the
OWNERS association focuses on piloting. I would certainly considering
joining the CPA if I bought the airplane, but I really didn't want to
join just to research it.

the cessna pilots assn. ( cessna.org) is the worlds largest "type"group
with about 12,700 paid members and very deep files on all things cessna
and a very active forum. membership is 45$/year.

the cessna pilots society is a FREE forum (cessna-pilots.com) with far
fewer but equally expert and experienced people on the forum.

if i were really looking at spending the kind of money a 210 will cost
i'd be joining cpa immediately but you can get a lot of helpful
discussion at the c.p.s.

That thought crossed my mind as well. For 45 bucks Matt can get a lot of
good information, and trivial in comparison to the other costs of buying an
airplane, e.g. pre-buy inspections, travel cost to look at candidate
airplanes, title searches, etc.
