Default High piced Long haul(UK)

Why are Ryanair or Easyjet or such like aitlines not doing Long Haul
Flights to USA or Australasia?.
If their business model works for short haul why can't they do it
for long haul?.
Is it banned by Govts.?.
Or do these cheap ailines have a secret agreement with high cost
airlines not to compete on long haul?.
Thanks for any insights, Hartly.

There is an agreement between the US and UK governments about who can fly
across the Atlantic and who can have slots.

The only cheap flights not with the major airlines are usually through the
Charter airlines but are purchased as if they are an inclusive tour which
gets around the rules. The main airlines also do the same and often when you
buy a discounted ticket it is full of restrictions and carries an IT
reference in the fare basis box.

If you want cheap fares on the major airlines book well in advance. This
February I did a round trip from London to JFK for £190 a person on United
(mind you they have to give their tickets away to get anyone to want to fly
with them - crappest airline I know outside of China), but I booked well in
advance. A ticket nearer the departure date was nearly £500.
