Air show short a Hornet THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Blue Angels have released one of six air show
pilots for undisclosed medical reasons, the Navy's precision flying
team said Friday.

Marine Corps Maj. Daniel Shipley of Summit, N.J., flew the No. 3 jet
on the leader's left wing. He is awaiting a new assignment.

The team's next shows are today and Sunday at Marine Corps Air Station
Beaufort.

The team, based at Pensacola Naval Air Station, will continue with
only five F/A-18 Hornets instead of the usual six until a replacement
pilot can be found, said Petty Officer 2nd Class Saul McSween, a Blue
Angels spokesman.

McSween said the team may try to get a former Blue Angels pilot
reassigned to take Shipley's place. The lone Marine on the team, he
was in the first year of a two-year assignment.
