Default Flarm, Flarmnet, What?

Yesterday, while flying with two friends, I noticed the following:

I'm equipped with a Flarm portable, ClearNav II, Flarmview, and ADS-B
In/Out.

One was equipped with transponder and Flarm.

The other (Two) was equipped with ADS-B Out only.

My indications were as follows:Â* On the Flarm portable, either showed as
a triangle symbol with delta altitude.Â* On the Flarmview, either was
displayed and identified by his ICAO code.Â* But, on the ClearNav, One
showed as a glider symbol with his call sign and Two displayed as a
glider symbol with the last two characters of his ICAO code.Â* All other
ADS-B targets were displayed only as what I'd describe as a B-52 symbol
with no codes.

Any ideas?

Every flarm display behaves differently. Some displays are more intelligent than others. So this explains the different in symbols.
As for call sign, you should see the contest number if the flarm or ADSb is registered on flarmnet.org. Yes you can and should register your ADSB on flarmnet if you don’t have flarm. Flarmnet converts your ICAO code to recognizable contest number. Both flarm and ADS-B transmits you’re ICAO code. I wish every pilot register their device on flarmnet. It takes 1 minute.

Thanks, I'll pass that information along to Number Two.Â* He has a PF
portable which is not yet installed and he plans to change to a brick in
6 months or so.Â* I'll ask him to register today.

The appropriate FlarmNet data file must also be installed to your display and/or flight computer.

PowerFLARM Portable does not handle FlarmNet files.

Not everyone is racing. The racing population is a small percentage of pilots. The rest of us enjoy soaring cross country without having to worry that god forbid someone is leeching. To the contrary.
