Hi guys,
Does anyone know when the use of PT-13/17 Stearman's was phased out by the US
armed services? Any ideas which training base used them last?

TIA

I can only speak for myself---Howard School of Aeronautics, Orangeburg, S. C.
1944.
It was a fun airplane to fly but a little skittish on crosswind landings.

From an old Peter Bowers column recently rerun in a Pacific coast based
aviation newspaper he states that the last US Army/Air Force Stearmans were
withdrawn in 1948. He doesn't state what units or uses they were being used
for.

The last USN N3N's were not withdrawn till 1961!

The N3N was used, on floats, at the Naval Academy, but it was not used
for general training that late. A friend has one of those last N3Ns in
California.
