View Full Version : CG limits for Ventus 2bx?

Frank[_12_]

I finally got some good main and tail wheel weights today for my V2bx
using the weighing procedure set out in my maintenance manual. I
computed the CG for both the empty and 'flying' configurations, but
was unable to compute the CG as a percentage of aft CG limit, as I
couldn't find anything in my documentation that unambiguously shows
the CG range and aft limit. There is a table on page 6.4.3 of my
manual that starts at 20.08in/510mm and ends at 27.56in/700mm, but its
not clear if these are the forward and aft limits or just convenient
graph endpoints.

Anyone care to tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Frank,

I have a spread sheet I can send you that only requires you put your
moment arms in and your weights and will calculate the rest. Set up
for
and ASW-20.

Dave,

Thanks, but this doesn't help for a V2bx unless I know the
corresponding forward/aft CG limits ;-).

Frank,

what about the official data sheet at the faa website? My friend/AI
Roger
pulled that up when we did the w&b on my 19 last fall. Don't ask me
exactly
where it is since I searched fruitlessly to find that sheet again, but
I know
it's in there someplace!

The FAA TCDS for the V2b is here:
http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgMakeModel.nsf/0/133e98b92a385fdb862570c80050abd1/$FILE/G04CE.pdf
and it does list the forward and aft CG range. I don't know how
different the "x" variant is from the 2b.

If it's type certified, you might try looking here if you haven't
already: http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgMakeModel.nsf/MainFrame?OpenFrameSet

They usually have all the cg limits, various stations (pilot, baggage,
water ballast, ballast, etc), etc listed in the document.

Those are obtained from the BGA datasheets - just go to the BGA
technical section.

I don't see how it is possible, or legal, for the flight handbook of
any modern glider not to include the forward and aft CG limits.

Schleicher provides a graphical depiction of the complete mass and CG
envelope. As discussed here previously the limitations may not be as
simple as a single forward, and a single aft, limit.

When you received the additional information did it agree with what
was already published in the handbook?
