No word yet on how open the API might be, but it's bluetooth, so
nature will find a way.

I believe the Spot II has bluetooth as well. Hackers, start your
engines...

What makes you think that?

The Spot II does not have bluetooth, but the PN-6W at
http://blog.delorme.com/2010/01/06/delorme-and-spot-handheld-gps-meets-satellite-communication/
uses a similar wireless protocol, IEEE 802.15.4, described at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.15.4-2006

Unfortunately, hand-held devices with that capability are incredibly
rare, and certainly not as cheap as bluetooth-enabled devices.

Cheers,

My mistake. I thought the spot II also talked to the DeLorme as an
add on service. Thanks for the correct info.
