hi: ok, it looks like I will need an engine in the 300hp range that
is certified. I really dislike the old and noisy lycomings and
continentals. the bombardier looks like a ways away. are there any
other reasonably good certificated choices?

Talking with SMA at Oshkosh, found out their "diesels" are currently only
certified for Jet-A.
Thielert can run regular diesel fuel in their 135 HP 1.7 liter model - don't
know where they are with a 300 hp engine.

"Diesel" is used as a technology, not the fuel. As I understand it, Jet A
is more readily available at European airports than 100LL.

True enough. Trouble is, most people look at you funny when you
say "compression ignition engine," but a "diesel" engine that you run
Jet-A in makes perfect sense.
