View Full Version : Twisted pair wire

Does anyone know where I can get shielded, twisted pair, digital data
wire that meets or exceeds MIL-W-27500? This is for data connections
between a KDR-510 datalink receiver and a KMD-550 MFD. Aircraft Spruce
does not have this, but they do have paired shielded wire,
it's just not twisted.

Somebody stop me if I'm talking through my hat, but I thought those
MIL specs were superceded in the 1970 by MIL standards, per
MIL-STD-454. I couldn't find an easy cross-reference on the Web.
(This goes back to when I was working for Transco Products. In the
course of another assignment, I discovered that all company's
drawings, including new ones, referenced MIL-R-11 resistors, instead
of the new standard. To meet the old spec, the resistor company had
to stop its production lines to pull the resistors Transco wanted
before they underwent reliability screening. The special handling
that the unscreened resistors underwent meant they cost a whole lot
more than more reliable resistors that met the current spec would
have. I told Purchasing, but I never found out how they dealt with
it.)

Chief Aircraft, Part # WIRE 22 2CS (22 gauge). It's MIL-W-27500, and the
piece I have here appears to have about 24 twists per foot.
If that's not it, try Weico Wire. I used to have their catalog, but I cannot
find it at this time. They manufacture almost every type of MIL-W wire and
if they cannot help you, they'll suggest someone who will.

Try S.E.A. wire in Madison Alabama. 256-772-9616 We buy a lot of mil
27500 wire from them at work. If it is a common dash number they
stock they will sell you a 100 ft spool for a reasonable price. Best
look up the 27500 spec first on the internet to see what dash number
you want because the options are almost endless.
