I been told that the IO550 will produce 300bhp@ high alt. anybody knows
anything about the IO550?

The IO550 is available in 300 and 310 hp versions. Neither of these
will be 300hp at high altitude. Continental does make a TSIO550
(turbocharged) that is rated 350hp, so it can probably hold 300hp into
the teens.
