The airworthiness certificate has disappeared from my airplane.
How do I get a replacement? FAA.gov give instructions for lost
registration but not for airworthiness.

Take the original airframe log book to your local FSDO and they'll issue a
replacement AW certificate.

The AW cert disappeared from one of my club's planes earlier this year,
I went to pick up the new one at the FSDO. They never asked to see the
logbooks (though I had them just in case). I don't know everything we
had to do because club manager made it all happen, I just flew to the
FSDO to get it (no, not in the plane without the cert :). But I do
know that at no point in that process did they ask to see our logs, and
as I recall it was a pretty simple and straightforward document
replacement procedure.

I would call the regional FSDO first and explain, they will tell
you what they want you to bring with you. Generally it should be
straight forward... but you never know. You also have to make
an appointment with them (at least U do at the Atlanta FSDO) first.
The thought is somewhat unnerving though... sort of like taking all
of your tax return info to the IRS and volunteering for a tax audit. :^O
I thought I had lost mine but then located it.

All I had to do was SEND them what they wanted. (Registration and copy of
last annual signoff, IIRC)
The new one came in the mail in a short time.

I got a good deal on a plane once because the owner said he's lost the
A/W certificate (everything else was good with the logs). Well, I
called the FSDO with the N number and the guy said, "Oh, yes, I see it
right here on the computer. Come on down and I'll print you a new
one". You can also buy the CD that has all the FAA records of your
plane (all 337s, etc).

I had the same issue on a plane I bought. No A/W certificate.
FSDO just looked it up
and made a new one.
