Man you can sure say that again. When I was an auto mechanic back in
the late 70's at a Chrysler/Mazda/Subaru dealership, we had a Chrysler
come in with a complaint of rough running. We brought it in and
raised the hood and were all, every one of us, shocked by what we saw.
Every single rubber hose that had anything to do with the fuel system
was swelled to twice or three times it's size and was sticky and
gooey. Those were only the hoses we could see. The hoses inside the
fuel tank were the same, as were all the o rings and diaphrams inside
the carburator. What an unholy mess.

We could smell the alcohol. Apparently a local gas station had bought
gas from a low price supplier and the alcohol ratio had gotten out of
hand.

I understand that auto manufacturers began using hoses made from
compounds more resistant to alcohol, but you never know exactly how
resistant they will be.
