Do you have any idea of what is pushing that RedBull P-39?
Without the original Allison V-1710-75/77 + Turbo-Superchargers
labeling it a P-38L doesn't quite seem right.

Also, the boom noses are from earlier P-38s.

Yup! The boom/nacelle chin intakes have the smaller opening and swept
back look of the P-38E through to P-38H and the "Lightning MkI & MkII".
The P-38J & P-38L had the large chin intake for the new intercoolers.

This one is a former Racer... it doesn't help to be true to the
origins...

Whatever. She's still a thing of beauty, even with the tacky trademarks.

Yup! here are a couple without the modifications. Note the fat chin intake.

Once, in the early 1940's, I watched one of these beautiful birds fly
inverted, down the length of the main street, Anacortes, Washington,at maybe
500 feet.
They were flying, I understand, from Paine Army Airfield, and were
target practicing at targets on Hat Island, just North of the Current oil
refineries on March Point. (refineries were not there yet)
We would enjoy, bicycling up Cap Sante to watch the P-38's strafing the
cloth targets hanging on the rock banks of Hat Island.
Anyone have any recollections of this group at Paine Field?
