Who was flying the plane when it went down? Was it the guy behind the
project?

This is just awful.
When I spotted the bird at OSH, it gave me a thrill that made me feel like a
kid again. I feel so bad for the family of the pilot and everyone who put so
much love into the airplane. Sometimes life really sucks.

It is really sad and I thought about it alot today. I feel for the family.
But what a way to go... flying the finest airplane I have ever seen (and
that is without any exaggeration).

I talked to Jim Wright a couple of times at OSH. He is the owner and said
he was not comfortable letting anyone else fly it. I assume he was in it at
the time of he accident.

The paper in Casper, Wyoming has a story on the crash. Pilot James
Wright was killed. It sounds he mentioned mechanical problems during
his refueling stop in Gillette.

They never ask anyone while covering other (non-aviation) news
events.... why start with aviation-related news events?

The thought I always have, is if they screw up the news with aviation-
related events as often as they do (gut feel is we're talking like 99%
of the time), how accurate are the rest of the news events they report
on?

Two different sources qoute the line people as having heard him talk
about having some type of mechanical difficulties with the aircraft
prior to landing there. If it's accurate, then it sounds like "got to
get home itis" overruled sensibility. Either way, it's still a sad
happening.

Because of the reference to "thin air", I assumed that the
comment refered to a geared "two speed" supercharger being
stuck in second gear. We used to shift gears in T-28s that
used an R-1820 engine with a two speed supercharger. The
shift would take place somewhere between 10-14,000' during
climbout.
