I'm with you guys 100%. It's absolutely ridiculous, and a testament
to soaring existing as a "1%" sport, that my $100 android phone with
free software can submit an acceptable file, yet my model 20 isn't
approved (though it was a few months ago, whats up with that?) and to
get an acceptable gps logger, I have to pay a minimum of $500.
Believe it or not, some of us are on a budget. I'll sooner draw lines
on a map to show my route than drop even more money just so I can post
my flight on OLC. I wonder how many guys out there use Cambridge
stuff? It was a staple in soaring avionics for so long, it's got to
be a decent percentage.

One other thing to add, looks like the FlywithCE navigator could be a
nice replacement logger for contests. Price is right. Maybe the SSA
will add it to the approved list.

It will be after 10/21/2012 the FAI voted to accept GPS altitude so the position recorders will work,just waiting for the rules to be published.

Let me change this just a bit and ask the question.

I am not looking to create another venting at OLC, but that is what I
suspect this looks like. I would like an honest reporting of how many
people were supporting OLC but no longer will because they can't get a
score for their flights recorded with their logger.

I will be the first to vote, and will vote twice, as I was dontaing
for my Dad to have a Smiley. How about you? Lost interest in
supporting OLC when they stopped supporting your logger that is good
enough for lots of things that require greater file security than is
required for posting flights on a website for others to view?

OLC says that they have been asking Cambridge to "pony up and get with
the program" for some years. And so, I suspect, has the igc. Not
doubting this one bit. But if you would stop and think about it, that
is roughly the equivalent of asking Microsoft to keep providing fixes
for issues with Windows 98. Microsoft's answer: Why not buy Windows
7? It is so much better than 98. Cambridge's answer: We sell a very
nice Model 302 that will do all that and more.

I am going to continue logging my flights to OLC. Two main reasons.
One, so my friends can see the flights I am making. Two, so people
can see that you can go soaring in the flat lands, and it doesn't have
to be done at Uvalde. I would like to see a contest come back to my
home field, and if people see that we can have pretty good soaring,
they might be more interested in coming here to fly. But, my
financial support to OLC is gone unless they restore ability to be
scored with a legacy Cambridge Logger.
