While surfing round airliners.net, i found a couple of pictures of the new
Piper Seneca V. Then i noted that all of them (the Senecas) have something
like a glass screen on the pilot's side of the windshield on the outside.
I've been puzzling about this for a while. can anyone tell me what is it?

Window heater to prevent/melt ice on the windshield.

Much better than looking out the side window, or an open side vent
window!

Hotplates are expensive. Something like $10k to replace.

Is this the same type of "plate" that used to be on the Piper Aerostar?
